Things to Be Thankful For

  1. You can read this or have it read to you
  2. You can access a computer, smart phone, or another digital device
  3. You know that someone loves you platonically, neighborly, or romantically
  4. You have had food and drink in the past 24 hours
  5. You dressed yourself or had help doing so
  6. You can laugh or cry though it may not come easily
  7. You can meditate if only by concentrating on your breath
  8. You have a shelter; not perfect but it’s there
  9. You can dance; everybody can dance
  10. You are alive

There are people who have more than you or less than you.  Your duty is to find balance and make the best of what is in front of you.  I do not take away your right to complain.  However, keep it at a minimum and on the down low.  There are days my anger pops up and then I catch myself and think, “Things could be worse.”

As you sit down at the table of your next gathering have everyone join hands and share what they are appreciative of.   I do this every year when the party is at my place and when I start this “prayer” I hear a few moans and groans but everyone announces their attitude of gratitude.  And for that, I am very thankful.
